Feasibility Study for 132 KV Transmission Line Route Survey and Power Evacuation of Sirajganj 68MW Solar Power Plant.

The Sirajganj 68 MW Solar Power Plant Project is a part of NWPGCL’s participation in GOB’s initiative to generate 10% of the country’s total electricity
from renewable sources to reduce dependence of Electricity Generation from fossil fuel, reduce carbon emission and mitigate Global Warming. NWPGCL has formed a Partnership with China National Machinery Import & Export Corporation (CMC) and formed a Joint Venture Company (JVC) to build up to 500 MW of Solar and/or Wind Power Plants in Bangladesh named Bangladesh – China Renewable Energy Company (Pvt.) Limited (BCRECL). As part of above, NWPGCL has taken lease about 214 Acres of non-cultivable free Land in the north west side of Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge from Bangladesh Bridge Authority to build a 68MW Solar Power Plant. The feasibility study for the main power plant has been done earlier. A further Feasibility study has been carried out on behalf of BCRECL to find suitable options to connect and evacuate the generated electricity to the national grid at PGCB’s Sirajganj 230 KV Switching Station or nearby 132/33 KV Grid Substation.

As per Feasibility study of the power plant project done by POWERCHINA Fujian Electric Power Engineering CO. Ltd. the generated electricity will be stepped up to 230 KV or 132 KV and delivered to the 230 KV Bus of Sirajganj 230 KV Switching Station through a 230 KV Single circuit overhead transmission line or to the existing Sirajganj 132/33 KV Substation. In this study five (5) options of connecting the power evacuation line have been identified. During our field visits it was found that in the existing 230 KV switching station, only one bay (Bay No. 6) is free for connecting single circuit line. The bay is equipped with all bay equipment but not in energized condition. Instead of construction a new bay by existing in the eastern side, this bay No.6 can be used as incoming line bay for the subject solar power plant by modifying the connection rearrangement. Though the existing Sirajganj 132/33 KV Substation is quite far from the Solar Power Plant but considering the other advantage and reduction of Transmission Losses it has been proposed to evacuate line power at 132 KV Grid by a double circuit line from Solar Power Plant to Sirajganj 132/33 KV Substation located at Sheyalkol, Sirajganj. Out of the five (5) options it has been foreseen to follow the Option –5 that is to construct one double circuit line from the solar power plant following a route
through the north side of Jamuna Bridge Approach Road up to Sirajganj 132/33 KV Substation and extend 2-line bays in the available land in the west side of the Substation.
